Our Affiliations
We have close connections with a number of Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu clubs and many other martial arts clubs within the area and across the globe.
We pride ourselves on our inclusive nature, friendly attitude and positive way of training, all levels of ability are encouraged and welcome to train, we host regular gradings but we are far more focused on learning about the Japanese way of the combat, our classes are structured to accomodate all levels of practitioner from the beginner to experts and we often have Budoka from around the world drop in to train with us.
Though we train traditional Iaijutsu, we also often mix in other styles and weapons in to our training regimen, it is quite possible to see students training with the kodachi (short sword), Naginata Japanese Glaive amongst other weapons during a class, we often also engage in other styles of Iaijutsu's waza, this we feel is a better way to understand better the capabilities and shortcomings of the Japanese sword.
We are not dedicated to any one style of Iaijutsu, as the freedom to train in a relaxed environment was felt to be more important than attempting to fit in to a a single persons view of where the art should be taken. This has given us far more freedom to explore the art in a practical sense without the constraints of history which we feel has been so obscured.
During the class often there will be warm , philosophical and inclusive debate about warfare, the practicalities and nuances of real battle. Also often touching on the difference between movies and popular culture and the very real bloody, dirty and ugly thing that fuedal and medieval warfare actually was. From a qualified historian who has studied military history for well over thirty years.
